Artist websites are a unique breed. Usually the design itself of these sites in minimal so not to detract from the presentation of artwork. This goal can present a challenge to some designers who are not accustomed to such an approach. However, streamlined and efficient design with solid navigation can greatly enhance almost any website.

I like artist websites for their simplicity, and that many artists often create their own sites. Some are able to incorporate their art very well into their site. My favorite aspect of artist websites as a collection is that they are all so different from each other and reflect individuality. Also, I think the works presented provided great inspiration in addition to the purely web design characteristics of these sites.

I picked the sites for this list based on the sites themselves as well as on the works of the artists. Alas, some do not make the cut. Web design and art are both subject to whims and fancies, and the trends of a time. Many others may not like what I do. That's the beauty of the internet though, you can find something that does appeal to you elsewhere.
